So, remind us: How many countries did Carter bomb, invade, and occupy? Didn't he attack Angola? Hm, no. That was Ford (Republican) in 1975. In fact, it was during the Carter years that the Cubans were capable of launching their massive transatlantic internationalist military operation in support of Angola's independence. How about Nicaragua in 1979? Didn't Carter abort the Sandinista revolution? Not really: the Sandinistas overthrew Somoza during the Carter years and the FMLN emerged as a unified force and launched its most serious offensive in El Salvador. But didn't Carter fund the Contras, including through an illegal arms deal with Iran? Hm, no. That was Reagan (Republican). Didn't Carter invade and occupy Grenada in 1983? Nope. That was Reagan (Republican). But Carter bombed Panama in 1988, no? No, that was Bush Sr. (Republican). In fact, Carter handed the Panama Canal back to Panama in 1979. _______________________________________________ pen-l mailing list [email protected] https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/pen-l
