Take my brother, for example. He's livid that we have debt and is certain that we must cut it or suffer greatly. His arguments derive from "common sense": if we were a family, we'd have so much income, spend so much, and have so much debt, etc., and he thinks our current government/public balances are out of whack with this simple picture.
