The question dominating mainstream economic
policy on the crisis is whether austerity, namely cutting
government spending and raising taxes to reduce government borrowing and get
public sector debt levels down is the right solution or not. Mainstream
economics is divided on this. But it is
agreed on one thing: that the aim is to put the capitalist mode of
production back on its feet.
