The capitalist mode of production is doing fine, thank you, however much
trouble the current economy may be. Economic collapse is no threat to the
capitalist mode of production. Only its revolutionary overthrow can do that.
Otherwise, as Rosa Luxemburg recognized, the barbarism can go on more or
less for ever. If you don't hit it, it won't fall.

The question dominating mainstream economic policy on the crisis is whether
austerity, namely cutting government spending and raising taxes to reduce
government borrowing and get public sector debt levels down is the right
solution or not.  Mainstream economics is divided on this.  But it is agreed
on one thing: that the aim is to put the capitalist mode of production back
on its feet.
