Whether it was _stupid_ or not depends on what their goal was. It's at least
arguable that their goal was precisely to "stifle an exciting popular
movement." If that was the case they were hardly stupid. Remember Obama's
'promise' to the Bankers that he stood between them and the men with
pitchforks.

The Chicago Teachers are at present the "vanguard" of an embryonic u.s.
left: one might say that they (and the coalition around them) are the actual
meaning of Wisconsin now.

We shall see.
