Out of curiosity, why do you assume the opposite of the conventional
wisdom? UVA's faculty (assuming that's what you mean by "the school") is
about as left-liberal as right-wing caricatures of academia might have you
believe.

The whole episode is strongly reminiscent of a near-identical scenario at
ye olde alma mater, the College of William and Mary, four years ago. (We
never let anyone forget that UVA's founder, Mr. Jefferson, is our alumnus.)

The W&M experience was much better than UVA's in some regards ("General
strike, dude!") and worse in others (we still lost).
