The problem is that in general neither the ultra left nor the social
democracats have the conceptual framework to formulate such policies.

And no one ever will. Anti-capitalist movements at least in principle
can/could overthrow capitalist regimes, leading to democratically organized
constituent assemblies, but it is idiotic to think that the decisions of
such assemblies can be dictated in advance by intellectuals.

We know the utter destructiveness of capitalist relations of production and
that humanity cannot long survive the continuation of those relations. We
know the _need_ to achieve the freedom within which more rational social
forms might be worked out. We do not know and cannot know in advance what
those forms will be. We know the necessity of freedom; we do not know its
possibility: that is subject to too much contingency.
