David, the destructiveness of minimum wage regulations is a dogma for economists. You could find a host of quotations that would support the dogma.
Card and Krueger (not Krugman) did an empirical (not theoretical) study of the subject, refuting the dogma. The fast food industry enlisted an economist to disprove their findings. His refutation turned out to be flawed because of the way it emphasized a few outliers. It is fine to engage in dialogue, but to expect others to agree with you because you can come up with a citation or even hundreds of citations does not work. Things would go better is you asked if minimum wages hurt employment. People would respond that raising minimum wages raises the wage level which creates demand, which generates employment. You could disagree and we could go around some more. You know much more about the law or bankruptcy than most of us do. Some people here are pretty well versed in economics. Many people here will take offence from a glib accusation about the racism of minimum wages. -- Michael Perelman Economics Department California State University Chico, CA 95929 530 898 5321 fax 530 898 5901 http://michaelperelman.wordpress.com _______________________________________________ pen-l mailing list [email protected] https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/pen-l
