I was a little surprised.  I thought that the antiabortion question would
bring out the
right wing and the Democrats would have trouble with turnout.  My connection
with the
Democratic hierarchy expressed confidence before, but I wasn't that certain.

Schwarzenegger could have easily governed as a "moderate Republican" if
that's not an
oxymoron, but he chose to behave increasingly as a member of the hard right,
finally
appealing to the worst of the worst, possibly in desperation.

By picking on teachers, nurses, policemen, and firemen instead of Blacks and
immigrants he
made a mistake.
