Yes & no. He came out strongly, then blamed his language skills for mispeaking, then sort of backed them, but not much more than Bill Richardson, "liberal Democrat" in N. Mexico.
His focus was on working people who served the public -- nurses, teachers, & other public employees. He is in the same position as Bush. He must now cater to a minority base or watch it abandon him. To flip-flop now will make him apppear as a "girlie man."
