Insufficient investment probably explains it. Western oil companies
still haven't recovered from the era of nationalization, and the gap
between who has oil and who has exploration and development capital
and expertise has yet to be bridged. And a crude attempt to bridge
it, like the Iraq War, has only succeeded in making the gap wider.
The sober peak oil types
Among the sober peak oil writers I like Michael Klare the best, but
the peak oil speculation, imho, undercuts his pretty good explanation
of US Middle East policy since FDR.
