I'm not Welsh, by my Welsh ancestors were accepted as "American"
before the Irish ones were. Despite the fact that they were "lace
curtain" Irish.

I find this rather amusing. The Welsh were discrimated against by the
English long after the 2nd WW.  I have friends my age who were punished
in grade school for speaking Welsh which the English were trying to
stamp out (just as we did with aboriginal languages in residency schools
until quite recently.)  And when the went to university in England were
made fun of and mocked because of their Welsh accent.  It is only in the
last decade or two that the Welsh language is being taught in schools in
Wales and even has become the language of instruction in many cases.
i.e. the Welsh have only obtained full rights in the generation,
probably after JFK became president.

By the way, Jim, since you have become Welsh, I hope you will be
celebrating St. David's Day on Thursday (March 1st).
