RM10mil allocated for Chinese in Kelantan
KOTA BARU: The Federal Government has set up a special fund of RM10mil for the Chinese community in Kelantan for socio-economic and cultural programmes.
State MCA deputy chairman Khor Chew Hing said RM2.5mil had been received to date and the remainder would be released in stages.
The MCA here has written to the relevant authorities to inform them of what the funds will be used for and the response has been positive, he said yesterday when contacted.
The programmes proposed include helping the poor, providing start-up capital for local enterprises and holding seminars to foster values that strengthen the family institution.
In the absence of strong economic policies by the state government, Khor said, the MCA had to help meet the communitys needs to ensure that growth continued.
Machang MCA division chief Lee Shuan Lim has been appointed to oversee the fund. //Thestar 29 Sept
