Kelantan To Cooperate In 9MP Undertakings
PASIR PUTEH, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik
Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has assured that the Pas-led government of
Kelantan would cooperate with the central government to implement the
Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP).
Nik Aziz said the cooperation included in land-approving matters for
projects planned for the state under the 9MP.
"As proof, I am willing to leave my work at the office, and even
though I am not well, I still come to welcome Prime Minister Datuk
Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as a gesture towards that spirit," he told
reporters after the launch of KADA National Baloh programme at
Kampung Jelor, here Monday.
The launching was officiated by Abdullah.
Also at the event were Umno Kelantan Liaison Committee chairman Datuk
Seri Annuar Musa, Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed and
Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Datuk Sharif
Omar.
Nik Abdul Aziz said any projects to be implemented, however, should
not be mixed with political interests benefiting a certain group
only. Instead, the federal leadership should be fair to all
regardless of their political leanings.
He said this included the distribution of tenders, where only certain
groups were awarded, when other capable contractors were not even on
the list because they were said to side the state government.
"This has caused a project in Kota Baharu being abandoned because the
contractor who was given the mandate to develop it was not
qualified," he added.
He said the same situation was also seen in the distribution of
subsidised fertilisers by the central government in the 1990s where
Opposition supporters were not listed as entitled for the aid.
Nik Aziz said however, he was grateful that of late, such a practice
had stopped after Annuar became the KADA chairman.//Bernama
