We use a web page for the helpdesk to do everything they need to do.
You can lock down your security on the webserver and by utilizing the
Adminmisc module's impersonation call, you can do the work as an admin
but only allow certain functions to be performed. There are certain
rights that are necessary for the accounts that you want to have the
ability to impersonate. The only problem I've seen with the
impersonation is that the impersonation does not follow the user for
any commands that are shelled out. Also, in talking about security, it
is important to remember that you will need to use Basic Authentication
on IIS if you are accessing resources that are not on the local
machine, i.e. creating a directory on a remote file server etc... See
Q207671 for details

Subject: web based user admin?

Hi,
Anyone ever tried to use perl/win32 to create a web based
admin tool? I basically need to be able to create/delete and reset
passwords. Oh yeah, limiting "help desk" users to reseting passwords
and creating/deleting users within their group too. 5 domains :)

Failing that, what's the best way for a web based user to
reset passwords for another user? Is there anything like a setuid
type deal as I can't seem to figure out how everyday joe helpdesk
can reset a password without giving him excessive rights.

        Thanx.
