Hi.

In my last job we had a web based user manager buildt around IIS and
( I'm sorry to say ) vb scripts.

Anyway, it worked like this:

To gain access to this site the user needed to be member of a given
group.

The users themselves held no priveliges onther than this group
membership. They were standard users. Through the perms of
this group the users created small job files to a predefined directory.
Theese files were named :
$username01.1 ( *.1 => create user using content of this file. )
$username01.2 ( *.2 => change user using content of this file. )
$username01.3 ( *.3 => delete user using content of this file. )

All the users could do was to create theese files.

In the background there was a service like Win32::ChangeNotify that
grabbed the files and did the dirty work. This service had
DomainAdmin rights.
In addition there was a scheduler function buildt in somewhere,
making it possible to schedule actions within the active month.

I don't have the scripts for this app, but it's very KISS friendly.

Hope this might spawn some ideas..

Subject: web based user admin?

Hi,
        Anyone ever tried to use perl/win32 to create a web based
admin tool? I basically need to be able to create/delete and reset
passwords. Oh yeah, limiting "help desk" users to reseting passwords
and creating/deleting users within their group too. 5 domains :)

        Failing that, what's the best way for a web based user to
reset passwords for another user? Is there anything like a setuid
type deal as I can't seem to figure out how everyday joe helpdesk
can reset a password without giving him excessive rights.

        Thanx.

-Tai
