Yeah, you see it differently and so does the original poster. But without 
having any numbers or names to back it up, the statement that "PDL is pretty 
slow... compared to other available software" is absolutely a pointless 
statement. Anyone can say anything. If it is true, how hard can it be to say 
PDL is slower than <name of software> <for a specific task> <by some 
percentage/amount>, etc.

I am not sure what you are saying above. I just told you that I compiled PDL 
and use it without any X on my machine, so saying that "on a machine without X 
you can't actually do anything with PDL" is just plain wrong. Even adding the 
"(or you can but it takes you some additional $amount_of_time)" is plain wrong 
because I don't do anything with PDL that requires X.
