Hello Pestlist Group, I had a question relating to monitoring for pests in museums that I wanted to toss out on this thread and see if anyone had any opinions. This monitoring question concerns webbing cloths moths (WCM) specifically.
Basically, the question is how to "interpret and treat" an area where 1 or 2 moths find their way into the trap over the course of a month. Is an area with 1 or 2 moths caught over the course of a month a "problem/infestation"? In theory, it seems like it indicates the presence of WCM and therefor would be, but in reality can you really devote time and resources needed to inspect and deep clean a 30' radius around every trap that snags a lone moth? Are there certain numbers of moths in traps that are, for lack of a better term, "realistically acceptable", while other numbers (+5 per month?) that signal "we need to specifically address this area right away"? I am curious about how different people view this issue when monitoring. And how these types of results (1 or 2 moths per month) get communicated to the institution through the lens of an IPM program that is tracking a WCM presence in a building.
