Hi Julie, when the specimens are still alive I tend to put the whole trap in the freezer for a few hours or over night. I’m not sure whether that is more humane than squashing them, but at least they remain intact.

Hello Pestlist, I discovered 3 beetle larvae on a trap of mine under a piece of wooden furniture. I have old photos of other captures I'm comparing this to and feel these guys are either Odd beetle or Carpet beetle. Is there an easy way to tell the difference? Sorry for the less-than-ideal photos of the specimens - one was still alive and moving so I was rushing to photograph it before killing it. The image of a squirming, stuck, larvae will haunt me for a while! Which makes me wonder - is there a 'humane' way to kill a bug on a sticky trap that keeps the specimen in tact? A conservator here suggested maybe a vapor chamber with some alcohol. Any ideas? Thank you everyone.
