Hi Lauren,

We quite like the Audion Futura Poly Twin Portable Hand Sealers (no mounting
hardware or foot pedal) and have used them to construct some very large
Marvelseal anoxia treatment bubbles over the course of several weeks. We bought
ours locally in the Los Angeles area
(https://www.wcpsealers.com/HTML/Audion-Futura-Sealer.html), but it looks like
there are quite a few suppliers of this brand in the UK
(https://www.packsealer.co.uk/manufacturers/audion/futura/).

We have gotten better, tighter seals with the one that has the raised bar than
the one that has a flat surface. Not sure if this is applicable for you, but we
really like the flexibility of having a hand held sealer, especially for
constructing larger anoxia bubbles that sometimes require sealing at strange
angles or heights.

Best,
Madeline

Hi Laruen,

I have used the “Impulse Sealer” for years. They come in different sizes and
different models, depending on your needs. Look for ones with replacement parts
and a rheostat to control the heat. The ones I like sit on a surface and are
portable. Some have a cutter, which is handy. These come in different lengths
(8”, 12” etc). If you need to shape the seal – rather than just a straight
seal, then a heavy duty hand held sealer (6”) is good. (I am not at the lab
so cannot give you the brands)

Subject: [PestList] High-volume heat sealer recommendations

Dear all,

We are looking for advice on brands of heat sealer in to use in a large-scale
collections move, in relation to sealing plastic bags for low temperature pest
treatment. The museum’s previous heat sealer was purchased in response to a
moth outbreak some years ago but could not keep up with the high volume it was
used for and is no longer serviceable. If anyone has advice on types/brands of
heat sealers that can manage multiple hours of operation at a time with a high
volume of bags, it would be much appreciated! Personal experience and advice
with use in collections contexts would be helpful.

Thank you,
