Heather, You’re not alone. What I commonly hear from both pest management professionals and their commercial clients is that convincing higher-ups to spend the money or time on the necessary structural repairs, design modifications, and environmental controls is one of the biggest challenges in managing pests, and one of the most common reasons for continual pest problems.

There had never been any bug data collection/IPM prior to this. And we were flatly told there was no bug problem…nice try. Over the course of 2019, we (the preservation department) checked over 100 traps weekly for the sole purpose of data gathering. In 2020, we moved to monthly as the solutions haven’t been applied yet. I want us to have solutions in place and to have been shown as effective before we move to quarterly. But quarterly is the goal. I’m trying to use the data to convince the higher ups that we need better environmental controls. In this time of budget constraints, that might not be an option. -- Heather Parks Head of Preservation Binghamton University Libraries 607-777-6207 [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> From: l.knoop<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, July 22, 2020 3:19 AM To: MuseumPests<mailto:[email protected]> Subject: [External Email] [PestList] Monitoring frequency Hi everyone, I have a question about de frequency of checking and replacing the blundertraps. What is the ideal monitoring frequency? Are you doing it weekly, monthly or maybe just every 3 months (because of switching seasons) and what are the reasons of this frequency? Thanks for your help!
