Dear Loes,

Like Heather, we check monthly. In theory the seasons should not have too much
of an effect inside, except maybe the type of invaders you get. However
depending on the vulnerability of the collections and the climate of the space,
missing key indicators for 3 months while they munch away can be devastating.

We also find that it gives us clear evidence to help get things done like extra
cleaning, fixing building envelope holes, checking for broken pipes, etc.

The real key is, however often can be reasonably managed, just like number of
traps. A regular schedule is better than a sporadic one so the data is
consistant.

Good luck
Genevieve

Subject: RE: [External Email] [PestList] Monitoring frequency

Hello,

Our answer is based on the project we’ve made of our IPM. There had never been
any bug data collection/IPM prior to this. And we were flatly told there was no
bug problem…nice try.

Over the course of 2019, we (the preservation department) checked over 100
traps weekly for the sole purpose of data gathering. In 2020, we moved to
monthly as the solutions haven’t been applied yet. I want us to have solutions
in place and to have been shown as effective before we move to quarterly. But
quarterly is the goal.

I’m trying to use the data to convince the higher ups that we need better
environmental controls. In this time of budget constraints, that might not be
an option.

Subject: [External Email] [PestList] Monitoring frequency

Hi everyone,

I have a question about de frequency of checking and replacing the
blundertraps. What is the ideal monitoring frequency?
Are you doing it weekly, monthly or maybe just every 3 months (because of
switching seasons) and what are the reasons of this frequency?

Thanks for your help!
