Just a heads up: We're talking to a primary school about some possibilities which will involve Linux. We have a keen member of staff who will continue to use MS but already has a Linux server and is interested in letting the kids see more than one OS. I'm starting with Edubuntu (since it's a well established educational distro) but other suggestions welcome.
I'll see if the teacher is interested in coming to a PLUG meeting (maybe we could even host a meeting at the school?) OT: I'm very keen to get them to try OOo on Windows; even if they stick with MS in the classroom (they do get big discounts) they should check that the kids can replicate what they do at school when they get home. I'm sure that lots of kids use MS Office at home without ever buying it, ie they're learning more about how to obtain dodgy copies than they are about how to use the software legitimately. I was thinking about a batch pressing of OOo disks but IIRC Ubuntu ships with Windows copies of OOo/Firefox/etc on them, so I'll see if I can get a few more copies of that shipped over (maybe I'll await v6 though). -- Mark Rogers More Solutions Ltd :: 0845 45 89 555 _______________________________________________ Peterboro mailing list [email protected] https://mailman.lug.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/peterboro
