I probably shouldn't mention this, but in the spirit of trying to 
minimise use of proprietary software by taking VMWare out of the loop,
I note IE runs under WINE with http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/
and can have multiple versions installed together.

Hoping for standards/guidelines-based design instead of more IE hell,
