Generally okay as long as the video memory is not shared. If it is, and
the chipset is ATi, the memory initialisation is generally problematic.

SMA, shared memory architecture, no.

HyperMemory, partially shared, uncertain.

Okay on open driver, radeon DRI driver in kernel, radeon (aka
xf86-video-ati) on the X.Org side. Also supported through closed ATi
offering.
If you want/need 3D on an open driver (for example, you have a Quad G5
or other interesting non-X86/non-AMD64 hardware), your only choice.

Only supported on a closed driverset, but should be okay for X86/AMD64.

Whether open drivers are available.
