Ok well, i am a bit further with this, I found that by editting the *
/etc/DIR_COLORS* file (as root) and setting the *COLOR none* attribute. this
stops the color from changing back after command like *ls*.

Also I can add the line to my *.bash_profile*:

*setterm -foreground green*

log out and log in again and the shell terminal font is now set to green,
and stays green even after running *ls* command.

*However*, annoyingly, after running CLI text editors like *vi*, it still
defaults the colour back to white upon exit to shell, any ideas?
