Ok well, i am a bit further with this, I found that by editting the */etc/DIR_COLORS* file (as root) and setting the *COLOR none* attribute. this stops the color from changing back after command like *ls*.

Did you get any further with this?

I've just realised that you've come here and introduced yourself and had no response from anyone, which isn't very friendly at all! Unfortunately I don't know the answer to your questions otherwise I'd have chipped in earlier, but I thought someone should at least say hello to you!
