Hey all,

I'm having a hard time thanks to microsoft.

I have a rented server with hetzner.de. A registered domain name through Network Solutions. A mailserver running postfix.

My problem is that I using my above setup, I cannot send mails to hotmail addresses. Or more importantly, others who have mail accounts on my machine cannot send to hotmail.

From my understanding it 'might' be because the hotmail servers do SPF record checks. Or it could be because the reverse DNS lookup doesnt match, I'm not sure.

I registered the domain name dbws.net from Network solutions years ago, my mail server is mail.dbws.net & Network solutions manage the DNS. I didnt want to get into managing the DNS on my own server as I dont have a secondary server in case it went down.

Anyway as I said when I do a reverse dns lookup, I dont get the dbws.net server but get the name of the machine according to hetzner.de which was something like static-xx.xx.xx.clients.server.de which I thought may have been causing hotmail not to let my mail go through.

I did attempt to move to dnsmadeeasy and manage my DNS through them so I have backup DNS and can add an SPF record for the mail but after a day, everything went totally balls up and I couldnt ping or nslookup and of my domain names or mail servers so I reverted back to Network Solutions as quick as I could to reduce the number of emails I may have been missing because of my server not being reachable.

By the way, according to the postfix logs, the mail does go through to hotmail fine, no problem. Its their anti spam filters which are causing the problem.

Anyway has anyone had this problem at all and found the easiest solution ?

Thanks,

Dave.
