Right, I said I'd do this so here goes.... Starting point: PC with multiple partitions (inc Windows and old Linux install), and Ubuntu 7.04 (release) CD.
1. Boot from CD, and run "install" from desktop. Accept default options except select UK, manual partitioning (select correct partition to format and mount as /), user name and password. Wait for install to complete and boot to new system. 2. Allow any updates to be installed. 3. Go to System -> Administration -> Restricted Drivers Manager, enable the Nvidia driver, let it install, reboot. 4. Go to System -> Preferences -> Desktop Effects. Click "Enable Desktop Effects". Click "Workspaces on a cube". So far so good: Now have wobbly windows and cube. But we're using Compiz at the moment and I want Beryl. So: 5. Run Synaptic, search for Beryl. Install beryl-ubuntu and beryl-manager. 6.
