Personally, I did the upgrade. Even though the upgrade worked, I did
have a lot of custom apps / packages on my system which I carried over.
There were a few things that didn't work / look 100% like a fresh
install does. One thing that I have noticed is different is the icon
size. I run my system at 1280 x 1024 so I expect my icons to be a bit
smaller but for some reason, the icons are set to a 32+ size settings.
Apart from that, it does work and function as previous releases. I'm
not too sure about the compiz though. While I like the effects, I seen
issues where some of the menus are not displayed the way that it should
be and I couldn't find a quick way to make it work (apart from turning
off the Desktop effects).

Subject: Re: [Peterboro] Update Ubuntu 7.10

Hello there and welcome!

I upgraded yesterday and it all went smoothly!

This new version has Compiz - Wobbly windows etc - on by default. I do
not think it is as stable as Beryl was on the previous version. It
occasionally looses the red bars at teh top of windows along with the
menu bar!

I have to shut down all running apps, and restart the X server!

A backup is a good idea!
