Hi, Mark, I have done almost exactly the same thing as you, I too have
VHS tapes that i have been meaning to transfer to one of my HDD's for
roughly 30 years but never got around to it. I got as far as buying a
Philips USB 2.0 to A/V converter with separate 3xRCA + S-Video plugs. I
have never got around to trying it out though. I still have a working
VHS recorder although it is never used these days. I would be very
grateful for any pointer's you care to share as you progress, success's
or failure's would be equally useful. My only experience of Handbrake
was some years ago, I remember ripping several dvd's with it but only
used the default settings which seemed to work fine and encouraged my

Agreed, Handbrake is very good, although it's been a good while since
I needed to use it so I'd sort of forgotten about it.
VHS->DVD recorder arrived yesterday so hopefully I'll get chance to
play over the weekend, if I can find a compatible telly to use!
