You might try looking at the Powerbuilder help file, for starters:
proxy object
A local representation of a remote object in a middle-tier server. To communicate with
a Jaguar CTS component or a user object running in a distributed PowerBuilder server,
a PowerBuilder client needs to have a proxy available locally.
