Or if we didn't want to develop that infastructure of auto-fetching & whatnot we could have --with-plruby output some info like "download foo, put there and rerun configure" (essentially what would be in the src/pl*/README.txt idea). A lot of folks would look at the output of configure --help to see what's available instead of poking around src/pl/*
