Dear all,

A reminder that today Serious Metaphysics will feature our own Shyane
Siriwardena presenting "Substrata and Compresence Were Not Created Equal"
(abstract below). We'll be meeting as usual at 12pm, but due to the job
talks we'll be meeting in the Philosophy Graduate Common Room rather than
the Board Room.

All the best,
Emily

*Substrata and Compresence Were Not Created Equal *

In a 2007 paper, Jiri Benovsky argues that substratum and bundle theories
of objects are, in some sense, equivalent. Benovsky offers two possible
kinds of equivalence - epistemological and metaphysical - that he takes to
hold specifically between substrata and the compresence relation. In this
paper, I will challenge Benovsky on both counts, with an eye to ultimately
defending a version of substratum theory.
