A locksmith may be able to repair it for you. Also, locks are available from
antique restorer's catalogs like Van Dyke's.

Hello David,
I thought about a locksmith in case I might need a new lock itself.
I'm going to several flee markets this weekend that have venders with keys.
I have a feeling the problem might be in the lock itself.
I can lock it but won't unlock. Have to push it down with my finger.
Luckily I took out the lock from the cabinet before playing with it.
The Herzog cabinet I have looks just like the one listed in " Antique
Phonograph, Accessories & Contraptions", Page 205, Picture 4-94 and 4-95.

I figured if I took the lock itself to the flee markets I could try hands-on
there if the key worked or not.
Thanks,
keith

David,
Thanks, I will have to look into the locksmith.
I really think it's more of a lock problem.
I had cut down some on the edge off the back side of an old barrel key, so
it would fit into the hole.last night. It works to lock, but won't unlock.
So maybe it's just the lock itself.
Thanks,
keith

You might try some graphite spray. There is one called Lock-Eze, but WD-40 is
pretty much the same thing. I have worked wonders with stuborn locks with this
stuff. Also, antique restorers sell blank barrel keys where you cut the slots
as needed, I think Van Dyke's sells those to.

David,
Just talked to a locksmith . Said would charge me about $10.00 for a key to
fit.
So I'm planning on taking the lock to him after work and hope he can fix me
up with one.
He said it didn't sound like a lock problem, just a key.
Thanks,
keith

It's very possible you're using the wrong key Keith. I made the mistake of
locking mine up and couldn't unlock it. Imagine my angst not being able to
get to my cabinet full of Grand Prize Victors and Zonophones for weeks! It
took me a month to find the right key! My cabinets both use single cut
keys, not the more common double cuts you find. I now have a number of
single cut keys, but many of them won't work because the locks in Herzog
cabinets take a smaller key even though the cut is the same, you need one
that has a small end on it, thinner and narrower than most.
