Hi Tom, On my Vic VI when you wound it up so far the spring barrels would flex and the round gear would come off of the worm gear and it would unwind very fast. I solved this by putting felt between the barrels. Please let us know what you find and what Victrola was it?
Steve I had something happen tonight that was a first for me. While playing a record on one of my Victrola's I had the main spring break! It was so violent that the record came off of the center post. Luckily, the record wasn't damaged. It looks like I am going to get my first shot at totally replacing a main spring. Tom
