Terry, I think you are referring to a motor specifically for a Victor IV (4) and not a 4-spring motor, correct? If so, what is the serial number of your machine and which shaft are you referring to? There are basically three different motor types that were used throughout the production of the Vic IV and removing components is quite different depending on which one you have.
The earliest Vic IV used a 3-spring bevel drive. Then there was a 2-spring version with the double-cut (coarse gears) spiral spindle, and lastly the 2-spring version with a quadruple-cut (fine gears) spiral spindle. There is a collar with a set screw at the end of the casing farthest from the winding gears. I don't think there are any others. Remove the set screw and any hardened grease and you should be able to tap the shaft out, I believe. Just in case, clean the ends of the shaft and gears and look for additional set screws.
