After my corned beef and cabbage tonight I should be able post the pictures I
have.? You are correct Bruce.? This is a Columbia tonearm on the Lyraphone
phonograph.? This is?just like?the machine I have pictures of.?The name plate
is a little different in style.? Dan's link shows another one and I'd be
interested to see what tonearm is on it and the nameplate.? That tonearm is
also different from the one I will post pictures of.? It says the photos are
courtesy of Loran Hughes.? Loran - are you out there and do you still have this
machine?
Glenn

Interesting. Someone obviously at some point in that phonographs life, stuck a
cut down Columbia "Tone Arm and Reproducer" into the tone arm slot and the
Current owner is incorrectly calling it a Columbia Lyric Phonograph. Everything
else seems to be correct. The name plate correctly identifies the phonograph as
A Lyric made by Lyraphone of America. A neat little machine. Wish we could see
what the correct tone arm and reproducer looked like.

Ryan,

I think this is the Lyric phonograph the gentleman is describing
(though the finish doesn't look much like wood):
http://www.montanaphonograph.com/gallery/lyric.html

A few pictures of the Stewart (wood grained) can be seen here for
comparison: http://www.montanaphonograph.com/gallery/stewart.html

Hopefully this can be of some help for your friend.

Hello Everyone,

In case anyone is interested, I listed 7 very nice 5" Concert Records on
eBay the other day. Nice titles too. If you like Uncle Josh, you won't want to
miss these as there are 2 Cal Stewart concerts. Also added a few other
goodies and will be adding some Edison orange special cylinder boxes, lids,
and
some 4 min wax records as well. If you have any questions, email me off list.
Thanks,
Jim.

I posted the pictures to my website tonight of the Lyric Phonograph.?

www.majesticrecord.com/lyricphono.htm

So do we think this is the original tonearm and reproducer?? We've now seen 3
of these since this thread started and all three had different tonearms.? The
Columbia one we know is wrong.? So...

What would a fair offer be to purchase this machine?? You can see the physical
condition of it.? It works but it won't keep up its speed when the needle is
put on the record.? The owner has not attempted any repairs fortunately.?
Thanks.

I am taking a wild guess here and looking at the condition of the grooves the
record with substantial enlarged and graying of the grooves, that is reason why
it does not keep the speed when the needle is put on the record, also I wonder
if the owner has ever changed the needle. I would also cast my vote for this
being the correct tone arm and reproducer for this machine. I kind of like this
odd little round metal phonograph and would certainly add it to my collection
if the price was right.

I'm guessing then that the link finally worked for you.? Hard to judge the
phonograph based on the record on it (judging a book by it's cover Bruce?).?
But I see what you're saying about that record being a bit tired!? ?I was
guessing the spring was weak, needed?to be regreased,?or some minor lubrication
problem.
"if the price was right" - well that's what I'm trying to determine.? I'm in
communication with him about possibly buying it.

Is the fellow a phono collector or did he just happen to aquire it and is now
reselling it? If that is the case than it could be the only record he may have
and is unfamiliar with the need to change the needle. All speculation of
course, but being a record collector like yourself, I immediately noticed the
very tired and worn record sitting on that turntable. Good luck with your
negotiations and I hope you are able to add it to your collection. Do keep us
informed of your progress. Hope you enjoyed your Corn Beef and Cabbage this
evening.

Hi Gang! Hope all is well. This is a sad reminder that any one of us could
experience this kind of tragedy. A pastor of mine used to say, "Any one of us
is just a fire away from being homeless." How true that is. As we all
search for and collect our most prized and sought after collections, we need to
realize that they can be taken away from us in just a matter of seconds.

The reality of all of it is that these items are mere material things and
nothing is as precious than life itself. It kind of puts it all in perspective.

On another subject...a fellow church member of mine has been experiencing
stomach pain for the last coupe of weeks. He went to the doctor several days
ago
and a battery of tests were performed. Sadly, he and his family were told
today that he has pancreatic cancer and has about 18 months to live. All of
you
that believe in prayer, please know that all of your prayers are appreciated.

Again, things like this put things into perspective. Live every day like it
is your last and never take one blessing for granted.

You all are great and I appreciate this fine forum. Thanks for all of the
knowledge that you share. This great hobby of phonograph collecting is great,
but it is the fellow collectors and the friendships that make it fantastic.

God bless to all and remember to keep the speed limit to 78...rpms, that is!
