That totally sucks, John. I'm sorry you had that happen, and I'm sure a lot of us feel your pain. For what it's worth, any time I make a deal on craigslist, I immediately get the money part out of the way, either through PayPal or even overnighting a check; I make sure the seller can't back out that way. My last purchase was for a pair of ADS speakers that were 4 hours south of me in Atlanta; because I paid the seller through PayPal within minutes of contacting him, he took the ad down and kindly held them for me for nearly 3 months.
Reporting her to craigslist was the best thing to do -- people need to be held accountable for their actions. At least you have a nice new space to put your next acquisition in!
