I think a lot of us may have seemed to have better luck than most, and better
luck in past days than more recently, because we used to pretty much deal with
other collectors, and only occasionally dealt with people who didn't know much
about what they were selling. Collectors aren't charlatans, and aren't out for
a quick buck, for the most part. With information flowing like it does these
days, almost every aspect of collecting is less pure, and people have most
certainly become more hardened and less honorable in general.

But when I PayPal someone money, they usually internalize that sale as closed.
I've not once had a problem with it. In situations where it may be months
before I can drive to pick up a given item, PayPal's a godsend and a pretty
great insurance policy. And there are protective measures in place with
PayPal, as well. (Let's not start another PayPal horror story swap -- you're
not convincing me it isn't one of the greatest things to ever come along in
online shopping, so don't bother.)

And, of course, there's always the watchful eye -- how much attention to detail
did the seller pay when constructing their listing? It will often (if not
always) match the degree of detail they observe in being a conscientious,
decent seller.

That does sound like a nice consolation prize you got, John. Any pictures up
yet? :)

Best,
Robert
