What a stupid, trivial piece of "entertainment" that clip is.

After he made the first batch of pens himself, Edison contracted out the manufacturing and sale of the system to Western Electric in Chicago, then sat back and collected at least $10,000 in royalties over the next few years.

He also licensed his stencil duplicating patents (and his name) to AB Dick, who turned "Edison's Mimeograph" into the foundation of the modern copying industry. Edison collected about $7,000 in royalties from Dick between 1890 and 1894.
