I am not sure this would help but does echo command end with semi colon ;
?..... <input type="hidden" name="form2"
> value="<?php echo $end?>"/> 

Maybe the echo is having some issue? Else, you could try passing the
variables as method = get and view the variables in
Ur address bar....

Where are you setting the variables $start and $end?
