Just fiddle the configuration of the server so that it recognises .php3
files as if they were .php.
In Apache, this means you find this line in the config:
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
And add one just like it nearby:
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php3
Also, fiddle the DirectoryIndex line:
To look like:
DirectoryIndex index.php index.php3
(this means a .php file which will be newer obviously will
take precedence over a .php3 file)
You should be right from there.
