Nor can I, but it is surprising how often I download code that is pretty much unreadable. I think a lot of people who try to get projects going just don't think this through, and then wonder why they don't get much response... Personally, I would have thought that it is worth taking to trouble to make any non-trivial code readable before open sourcing - after all, you never know what might grow from it. Even PHP itself started as a modest personal project....
