Hi,
I'm working at a project that will need a web site with translated texts.

I want to:
- use standard or at least non proprietary solutions
- don't affect too much performance. I have a dedicated but old server
(freebsd)

I'm thinking at gettext and in fact I'm implementing it in this way
(openwebsurvey.di.unito.it), but I have some doubts:

1) Is gettext suitable for use in web environment? Someone tested it? I'm
working with php 4.1.2. I'm very worried about performance. Is better to
use gettext and translate strings or to translate full pages (or included
files) "by hand"?
2) Can offline generation of translations be a bit more "safe"? If so, any
suggestion of how doing it? I'd prefer not to use templating engines like WML.
3) I'd like to edit HTML in my usual WYSIWYG editor. Using gettext with PHP
I have no more HTML text to edit... Any trick for using HTML editors like
Dreamweaver?
4) I was trying gettext in winme, with apache, and I noticed that .mo files
where not reloaded until I stopped apache. Is it normal? Why it is done,
and how? My .mo files are loaded in memory?

Thanks in advance,
         Andres
