As you already have some good host & template recommendations from
other members , I will
suggest the other option - build your own forum!
3 years ago I joined this list & I knew zero php. It took me one week
to get the basics of a forum up & running and the process was
invaluable in the php learning process - I don't think I would have
wanted to do it any other way.
The benefits of this approach are that you have a unique forum that
doesn't look like 20,000 other forums out there & hackers don't have
access to your code so its harder for them to use exploits.
OK, its not the worlds most advanced forum, but it has all the
basics, private messages, user profiles & gallery etc
You're already in the right place for help if you choose this route,
so I would say don't be afraid to jump in & build your own :-)
