Alan Gates commented on PIG-115:
--------------------------------

Renaming scripts to bin is fine with me.

Let's leave build.xml as it is for now.

A general thought on copying hadoop. I have no problem plagiarizing hadoop
when they have useful stuff. However, we do not want to tie pig tightly to
hadoop. One of our steering considerations is that pig is an engine for
operating on data in parallel environments, not an engine for operating on data
on hadoop. hadoop simply happens to be our first parallel environment. This
includes being too closely associated with their process and approaches, making
the assumption that anyone using pig will already know hadoop. Someday,
hopefully, that won't be true. So as we copy things from hadoop let's make
sure it's because it will work well for pig, not just to be like hadoop.

> The current pig.pl is very y! specific, a generic start script is required
> that works for all users.
> Goal of this issue is to collect a list requirements a new script has to
> fulfill.
