Here's a completely uncompiled and untested patch to resolve issues (1), (2) &
(3). (1) is obviously temporary until PIG-111 lands.
For (4) we could simply introduce a hod.path property. With all the flakey NFS
servers around here, I try to minimise the number of places on my path.
