Looks like the statement is prepared in store_attachments functions, of
attachement.c, called by message.c,
using SQL_PREPARED_STMT_GET_ATTACHMENT_ID_BY_SIGNATURE.
How can I check the binding here?

try the following:
edit mysql.c, and locate the prepare_sql_statement() function. Then
add
the following to the beginning:
syslog(LOG_PRIORITY, "%s: sql=%s", sdata-ttmpfile, s);
then recompile, and run it again. When you get the
mysql_stmt_execute
error, look for the previous syslog entry, it will reveal the
problematic
sql query.
