Some thoughts:

Would be nice to provide us with some stats after the fact, so we know
how much additional exposure this gives us.

Isn't 48 hours a bit short? There is also still the patch quality
factors, timezones, back-and-forth interactions during testing/feedback,
etc. 
I guess the devs should be the one to comment on that.

The last part sounds almost like "you write a patch --> you get commit
access"; just be careful about that wording. 

Of course if it's a bounty to get acquainted with the project and to get
a nice project to work on + recognition, it's all good. But to become
regular contributors, this is, of course, just a starting point.
